Once upon a time, the Internet was invented (thanks, Al Gore) and everyone wasted large amounts of time watching YouTube videos of kittens and looking at pictures of cats in funny places. Now instead of having to surf around for your cuteness fix, there’s a one-stop site for furry distractions.
Introducing Catmoji, a social media platform dedicated solely to sharing pictures, GIFs and videos of felines.
A “catmunity” if you will.
Users are able to search the site by moods such as “happy” which lends itself to the “moji” part of the name. Pictures are liked, shared into individual collections as well as tagged and categorized by five different expressions.
Profiles include “catavars” and people are encouraged to upload their own original content as well as share content from other users. The interface has hints of Facebook (such as being able to “like” a post), but the visual presentation and format is directly reminiscent of Pinterest. Users’ personal “collections” of images are essentially pictures re-pinned on boards. The site is invite only, just like Pinterest was until August.
Not surprisingly there isn’t a way for Catmoji to make money currently, but as BetaBeat points out, a partnership with Fancy Feast or another related feline brand doesn’t seem too outlandish.
The Malaysian co-founders, Matthew Phiong and Koekoe Loo, share that they “want to make the Internet a better and happier place with cats.” Touché.
Although Catmoji is not relevant from a B2B perspective, it’s always good to be aware of any new social media platforms out there. So far the site doesn’t have a large amount of users, but our collective love of cats shouldn’t be underestimated.
