Communications Major Takes Next Step Toward PR Career

Deniz Sonmez-Alpan, a rising senior at American University in Washington, D.C., has been hired as WordWrite Communications’ 2012 summer public relations intern. 

Sonmez-Alpan is a foreign language and communication media major with a mdescribe the imageinor in international business. Her specializations are Spanish and public communication. She will assist the WordWrite team in maintaining media lists, writing and distributing press releases, writing blog posts and compiling the monthly newsletter.

“We’re thrilled to have Deniz working with us this summer,” said WordWrite President and CEO Paul Furiga. “She brings international experience from her time working abroad, and her writing skills are some of the best we’ve seen in our interns—which is of great importance in communications.”

Sonmez-Alpan served as the president of the Class of 2013 at American University and the director of publicity for AU’s chapter of PRSSA. She has previously worked in the White House Office of Presidential Correspondence and as a reporter for Hispanic Link News Service based in Washington, D.C. Sonmez-Alpan has just been elected president of AU’s chapter of PRSSA for the upcoming academic year.
