WordWrite Weekly Wrap – Less Characters on Twitter Edition

Had a long week?  We know the feeling. You may not have gotten a chance to read the most popular stories from this week, so we’ve collected them for you below. Enjoy!

#1: Twitter Reducing Some Tweets to Just 117 Characterssocial media

Mashable

Having only 140 characters to express yourself is hard enough, but Twitter is reducing the count even more. Tweets that contain shortened hyperlinks will now take up two more characters than previously. The changes will go into effect on February 20, 2013. Losing two characters doesn’t seem like that much, but when you’re composing a tweet, that can mean the difference between including a word or not. Can you include everything that needs to be said in 117 characters? We’re going to have to try.

#2: 10 Things Not To Say To A Social Media Manager

Business 2 Community

Running social media for a business is a lot of work. Some understand this and some don’t. Ever had someone ask you, “Aw… that’s cute. But what’s your real job?” Don’t worry— it’s a common occurrence. This lists highlights some of the misconceptions (or obnoxious questions) social media managers are subjected to. Read through the list, chuckle and be glad you’re smart enough to know social media is an important and serious business tool. And when Aunt Edna says, “I just don’t get the point of ‘The Tweeter’” at your family’s Christmas party, you’ll know you’re not alone.

#3: Montana Tourism Promoter Accidentally Posts ‘F This Job’ on State’s Official Facebook Page, Probably Has One Less Thing to Complain About

Gawker

These types of mistakes happen all too often on major social media accounts. This week’s culprit is the state of Montana’s tourism Facebook page, where a disgruntled employee posts their blatant negative personal feelings as an update on the page. Ouch! We’d have to agree with the headline, this person probably doesn’t have to worry about her job anymore and can spend more time concentrating on her future husband.
