This week I read a great article in Pop City about creating a Pittsburgh bucket list. It got me thinking about what I’d put on my Pittsburgh bucket list. This great city hosts a ton of great events and although the Evaline Halloween party in Bloomfield is apparently defunct (bring it back!) and the Sprout Fund doesn’t host Hot House anymore (RIP) there is plenty to do besides going to a game on the North Shore. (Not that we aren’t all counting down the 17 days until the Buccos’ Home Opener.) Check out this short bucket list, and feel free to share what you have on yours.
This great event accomplishes two righteous objectives: helping to fund our Pittsburgh public
libraries and playing host to a late night party complete with locally-made fare and drink. More evidence to corroborate the Amazon study findings that place Pittsburgh among the top ten most well read cities. Don’t miss this one next year!
This is a must-attend, weekly event that exemplifies why Pittsburgh is the greatest city on earth. The Pittsburgh Banjo Club meets every Wednesday from 8-11 and plays all of their favorite hits from the 20th century’s first three decades. There is no cover, drinks are cheap and there is a 50/50 raffle that supports local charities. 20-something to 80-something dancers gleefully exchange partners with no regard for age and the band often features accompaniment from other notable Pittsburgh musicians. Banjo Night is truly a Pittsburgh gem.

The Strip District has come a long way from being a shipping destination for mills and factories along the Allegheny River, but that’s not to say it has lost any of its industrial feel. Any time you’ve got guests from out of town, the Strip should be on the itinerary. Although it has attractions for all times of the day and night, Saturday mornings can’t be beat. Arguably the best breakfast places in the ‘Burgh are located here, you can find the cheapest Pittsburgh sports gear, niche and artistic gift stores line the walk, and the best international food markets you can find anywhere are all reasons to make the Strip a destination on Saturday mornings.
What is on your Pittsburgh bucket list? Do you have experiences with any of the places mentioned? Please share below, or tweet them using the #Passion4PGH hash tag. Thanks, and viva la Pittsburgh!
